Neurology
Neurology is the branch of medicine that deals with diseases of the nervous system, but contrary to psychiatry it tries to heal problems that are not of mental but of organic origin.
The most common neurological complaints generally are: numbnesses, visual disturbances, vertigo, paresis, seizures, concentration- and memory problems, disturbances in the coordination of movements and balance disturbances. In the same way injuries of the nervous system, inflammations, stroke, problems with cerebral circulation, and dementia belong to here as well.
To establish the precise diagnosis in many cases it is necessary to involve other specialties, such as internal medicine, neurosurgery, rheumatology or ophthalmology.
To establish the diagnosis the followings may be necessary:
- laboratory tests
- ultrasound examination
- X-ray
- ECG
- cranial-, spinal CT
- MRI
- EEG, EMG
- psychiatric assessment
